Song with an RSA
14th June 2016
I think this has only been released this year, well this version, and I have to say I love it. I heard it on the radio (Nova!) twice now, and I always turn it up full blast and then warble along.

Ridley: Love this song! It’s really upbeat, if you need a lift, there’s nothing better than singing ‘it all woooorks oooout’, along with them! 🙂 Amy Huberman is just brilliant in their music video, and the ending is great!

Latimer: So, William Shatner has an album – right that’s a bit weird, but Shatner is amazing, so let’s go with him on this! This is kind of a story more than a song and it’s both strange, sad and strangely good? Have a listen. It was written by author Nick Hornby.

Song with an RSA
21st April 2014
Ridley: Such a strange video, they get presents of dirt and leaves, and there’s a giant bull looking at a little blonde girl…? Who knows, but the song is great! Their girl’s voice is beautiful, and the band, San Fermin are known as chamber pop!

Latimer: This is an oldie, when I was a kid I really liked it, but I don’t think I understood how sad it was! ;_;

Latimer: Cool German fan-cover of the epic opening song to Shingeki no kyojin – I knew it would sound all sorts of amazing in German!

Song with an RSA
5 September 2013
Ridley: When we were on holidays in England, we kept watching the top 10 music videos during breakfast. While I chomped on an apple I tried to sing this song, as it just kept coming on and I grew to love it. That and it’s such a strange video to watch, it’s obviously based on Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz, though I don’t really understand the ending!

Latimer: Really like M83. There’s something soothing about them!

Song with an RSA
18th Jan 2013
Ridley: I know this song has been around awhile (both the original and this ‘newer’ version), but I still think it’s absolutely beautiful, sung by Ellie Goulding, it’s called Your Song. I think the lyrics really epitomises what it is like to suddenly fall in love, “how wonderful life is now you’re in the world”!

31th Dec 2012
Latimer: Our friend Orbie told me about these (she’s the music-suggester as Ridley is my book-suggester… what do I offer? TV probably? Or… nothing? So selfish, hehe!). She said they make her feel like she should ‘be in a field somewhere making daisy chains’!

Song with an LSA
14th Dec 2012
Latimer: Periodically I find myself singing this song (at very random moments, particularly; ‘sometimes I wish Roger Moore would come back, with a hover-gondola and some kind of jet-pack’!). It’s a really funny, ‘suggested theme song’ for Quantum of Solace; way back when, by Joe Cornish from the Adam and Joe Radio Show that used to be on BBC 6 Music. I adored them boys, so funny! I love their podcasts!

Ridley: Discovered this song recently, I think it was in the movie Charlotte’s Web, it’s absolutely beautiful. Really just makes you stop for a moment and think. Love it.

Latimer: An interesting band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. This one is very up-beat and I really like the guy and girl’s voices and their little ‘chatty’ bit during the song is very cute 🙂 It feels like there’s a story in this song; inspiring 🙂

31st August 2012
Ridley: This is ‘Little Talks’ by Of Monsters and Men. I love their name, it reminds me of John Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men’. the band describes themselves as daydreamers, which I can totally relate to! 🙂 The video is really quirky too!

29th August 2012
Latimer: I absolutely adore Mumford and Sons. Their songs make my heart soar; every one of them on Sigh no More is amazing. So, I’m really looking forward to hearing their new album Babel. It’s out soon (AHH! I’ve been waiting so long!); September 24th! These are two new songs from it; sounds great!

20th July 2012
Ridley: A bit different to the other songs below and a bit older then them. This is ‘One Last Wish’ taken from the sound track from Casper the friendly ghost (the movie). I loved that film when I was younger and in particular this song. It’s a haunting melody…excuse the pun <(~_~)>

Latimer: my sister was a massive Counting Crows fan, she actually introduced me to this song. It’s kind of depressing, but there is something powerful about it. It makes me want to sing with him- an urge almost, like the words burst out.

Latimer: a very beautiful cover of ‘wicked game’ by James Vincent McMorrow.

23th June 2012
Latimer: Love James Vincent McMorrow. A fantastic singer song-writer from Dublin. This is just a haunting song; very beautiful. Saw him live in the Olympia (an old Victorian theatre in Dublin) and he was just amazing!
Latimer: The fantastic, magical Emeli Sande, amazing voice! She’s a Scottish singer-song writer; she seems to be such a down-to-earth cool and funky person too!
Latimer: Birdy’s only 15years old… what an incredible voice. She has a voice that seems timeless, far older than her young years. I hope she stays around for years, she can only get better surely! This is a cover of ‘People Help the People’ by Cherry Ghost (I can’t say I know them or that version, so for me, this is the only version of this song I know). She picked some brilliant songs to cover on her debut album- the one below is the one she wrote herself (amazing)!

Song with an LSA
16th June 2012
Latimer: I am a massive fan of Supernatural (the TV show). One of the best things about it is the kick-ass soundtrack. Dean and Sam love classic rock. As they roll down the dark roads in their gorgeous Impala, they always play some old school rock song. Okay, while it’s not my genre, it does have that element of ‘fuck you, let’s just rock!’ and sometimes that’s just what you need! (BonJovi- Wanted Dead or Alive; Kanas- Carry on my Wayward song (it’s like the Supernatural theme song that one!); and Nazareth- Hair of the Dog)

Ridley: Ah I only know this because of the Nikon camera ad. But I like Radical Face’s sound.

Song with an RSA
11th June 2012
Ridley: I have to say that this song brings a tear to my eye. It has such a sweet, pure sound, particularly the young girl at the start. Her voice is so clear. Also the lyrics, they’re beautiful, singing of love, community and the thought that if thousands stand together, your voice will be heard. I think it’s a very strong message.

Song with an LSA
4th May 2012
Latimer: Recently heard this one on a massive Indie playlist gifted to me by noble Lady Orbie. I’ve been repeating it on my iTouch all week. It has a sad sound to it, almost eerie, of people leaving and people being left behind. But strangely I find, it also has a strong, drumming, up-beat quality to it.
Yep, definitely liking this one.

A song that definitely has an RSA
1st May 2012
Ridley: Kiss me by Sixpence None The Richer is my favourite song. Completely. For various reasons. I’ve mentioned it once in a previous blog entry that it reminds me of reading the first book Harry Potter book but it represents far more than that for me. A few times down through the years when I’ve had a bad day, now not just your usual horrible day (where a relaxing bath&chocolate or wine would fix it)-no it’s one where you feel like crawling into bed to cry, hug your ratty old teddy bear or pillow and just give up-this song has played for me on these days. It has either suddenly come on the radio or it randomly shuffled to be played on my ipod when I turned it on. When I hear it, I smile as I’m always reminded that whatever my problem, it will get better. Everyone should have a song like this. Zoom the volume up, nice and loud, then just sing! You’ll feel instantly better!

29th April 2012
Latimer: A song that makes me smile. Can’t help swaying to this.
Latimer: This is a cool song I heard recently; really liking the sound of the Alabama Shakes. Orbie was on to them before me- as per usual!
Latimer: Love the beat; really cool, fun song.
Latimer: Ricky Gervais recommended the Low Anthem on his blog a year or two ago. And Ridley knows I love him (and he’s got good taste in music, judging by his hilarious XFM radio show from back in early 2003-ish). Anyway, really glad I decided to check out this song.
Latimer: Love the mellow sound of Benjamin Francis Leftwich. His album Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm is excellent.

Picked up on Alabama Shakes in a column by a local humor writer. I followed links, read reviews, ordered a CD and now it’s road music. They’ve made it here. They showed up on LateNight with David Letterman.
They are great aren’t they? Such a soulful sound! They were fantastic on Later with Jools Holland (an English show about music). Really love the lead singer, she has such an amazing voice!
Very excited, I’m going to see Chris Isaak in October when he comes to Glasgow. 🙂
Wow, Sixpence None the Richer, was totally thinking about this track the other day – that’s a nice blast from the past! What a cool idea for a page on your blog! 🙂 I’ve been writing some blog posts about individual tracks that are special to me in some way – would take me more than a lifetime to get through them all! 🙂
Thanks a million! 🙂 Yeah, Chris Isaak would be great to go to! Hope you have a fantastic time at it!!
Sixpence None the Richer is brilliant, they’ve a really soothing sound to a lot of their songs, but love that one in particular! We must check out some of your posts on tracks you like, see if we have other similar tastes! It’s amazing how important music can be, isn’t it?
Songboard is great! I think you need to check out this tune…
Orbie
As per usual, a fine choice Orbie 🙂
Ah well you might like this so…a new and upcoming Oz singer/songwriter displaying Thor-esque looks 🙂
Hi Orbie!!! (Ridley ‘ere!)
Yay on the commenting from you!! 😀
Thor-esque looks you say? Exceeeellent, you know how to make me happy! Haha.
